What once appeared to be nothing more than a tangle of blackberries was actually hiding a true treasure. The owners had the vision not only to restore this classic home in Thurston County, WA but to expand it in a thoughtful way that preserved its original charm.

After relocating the home on the property and placing it on a new foundation, the tireless work of restoration began. Every opportunity to retain and repurpose original materials was embraced. The original shiplap substructure was carefully removed, lightly sanded, and refinished to become the stunning interior finish of the kitchen, island, and beam wrap.

Preserving the historic character of the home was paramount, and maintaining the original stairway was essential to ensuring the rest of the layout flowed seamlessly. Beautifully designed cabinets, perfectly selected floors, and meticulously installed shiplap created timeless and inviting living spaces.

Large doors off the back porch welcome fresh breezes and an abundance of natural light, enhancing the connection between indoor and outdoor living. Thoughtful details throughout the home harken back to an era when houses were built with a more hands-on approach.

Bringing a nearly century-old home back to life has been a project we will always cherish. We are proud of how we blended both the old and new elements, creating a home that feels complete and unified.

I would like to recommend the services of Williams Contracting of Olympia, WA. The owner Chris Williams is a great person to work with. We came to him with a raw concept of a garage with a second floor. He designed the building, checking with us about many details. He made a lot of suggestions that we were delighted with and incorporated into the design. He suggested a detail that resulted in a new front door for the house, it is great. Once we agreed to the design he took it to an architect to get working plans. The county permit approval process and the hiring of the sub contractors all flowed easily.
